SOUTH ORANGE AND MAPLEWOOD, NJ - All South Orange Maplewood School District (SOMSD) schools will have a delayed opening on Monday, April 2, according to to an email from the school district at about 6 a.m. on Monday.

The original message from the school district made no mention of the dismissal time, though schools were scheduled to dismiss on a half day schedule on Monday. A follow-up message at about 6:35 a.m. stated that "the half day for professional development is cancelled, since NJ attendance guidelines require 4 hours of instruction to be considered a school day."

Students will now have a lunch period on Monday, and all schools will dismiss at their usual times, stated the message from the school district.

The full message from the school district is below:

Dear SOMSD Families and Staff,

Please note that dismissal will take place at the usual time today, due to the delayed opening. The half day for professional development is cancelled, since NJ attendance guidelines require 4 hours of instruction to be considered a school day. There will be a lunch period, so please pack a lunch for your child, or they can purchase lunch through food services.

Before-care is canceled at all schools, but after care will take place as usual.
