WASHINGTON, DC - South Orange Middle School (SOMS) students on a visit to Capitol Hill as part of the 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C., had the chance to meet with and take a photo with Donald Payne, Jr. on Friday. Payne is the U.S. Representative for New Jersey District 10, which includes South Orange and Maplewood.

Photos of the students with Rep. Payne were posted to his official Facebook page with the following message, "This morning, I met with students from South Orange Middle School. These sharp young minds had plenty of questions and great ideas for moving our country forward. It’s always an honor to meet with future leaders."

Payne also posted a second set of photos of students from Iowa with the caption, "Students from around the country are in D.C. this summer. On my way to greet middle schoolers from South Orange, New Jersey, I ran across Rep. David Young and a group of young people from Iowa. Who says bipartisanship is dead? A civics lesson on the House steps."

The photos with Rep. Payne come a year after the refusal by some SOMS students to pose with Paul Ryan on last year's 8th grade trip made national headlines.
