South Orange Police Blotter - Adult Arrests for Burglary and Theft Reported

Adult Arrest - Burglary - Elyjah Freeman, an 18 year old Orange resident was arrested on Monday, Jan. 29, at approximately 7:50 a.m. for burglary. Officers responded to a West Montrose Ave address for a burglary to auto in progress. Officers quickly located a subject who matched the description given by the victim walking on Clark Street. Officers stopped the subject (Freeman) and after further investigation at the scene determined that he was the actor involved in the burglary to auto. Officers arrested Freeman, who was also found to be in possession of CDS (marijuana) and CDS paraphernalia at the time of his arrest.   Officers transported him to headquarters where he was processed accordingly.  

Adult Arrest - Theft - Daniel Coley, a 24 year old Newark resident was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at approximately 1:15 p.m. for theft. Coley, an employee of Blink Fitness admitted his role to detectives as the actor involved in the locker room thefts that were reported to police on Tuesday, Jan. 30  Detectives arrested Coley and a routine records check during processing revealed two outstanding arrest warrants for Coley out of Cranford. He was charged accordingly.

Theft - Several patrons of Blink Fitness reported that sometime between 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, actor(s) unknown stole personal belongings out of their lockers while they were working out. Victims related all the lockers were secured with locks. The detective bureau is investigating the incident.

Burglary to Auto - A Tichenor Ave resident reported that sometime between 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, and 9:50 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31 actor(s) unknown entered her unlocked vehicle (2012 Honda) and ransacked the interior. Nothing is reported missing at this time.

Burglary to Auto - A Radel Terr. resident reported that sometime between 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 8:50 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31 actor(s) unknown entered his unlocked vehicle (2015 Honda) and ransacked the interior and trunk areas. Nothing appears missing at this time.

Theft - The owner of an Irvington Ave business reported a theft that occurred sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27. After using the restroom, an unknown male patron entered the kitchen area and removed a large amount of cash from a bag that was sitting on the top of a refrigerator.  The actor is described as a Hispanic male, wearing blue jeans, a light colored short sleeve shirt, tan boots and a red and white hat. The detective bureau is investigating the incident.

Burglary to Auto - A Mayhew Drive resident reported that sometime between 10 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 28 at 9 a.m. and Monday, Jan. 29, actor(s) unknown entered her unlocked vehicle (2011 Volvo), rifled through the interior & stole approximately $10 in loose change.

Adult Arrest - Shoplifting - Lakiesha Herrill, a 46 year old Orange resident and Anthony Smith, a 50 year old Irvington resident were arrested on Sunday, Jan. 21, at approximately 9:05 p.m. for shoplifting. Employees at the 7-Eleven store on Valley Street called police for a shoplifting in progress and provided a detailed description of the two actors involved.  Officers responded and were able to quickly locate and apprehend the two suspects (Herrill and Smith) without further incident.  Officers transported Herrill and Smith to police headquarters where they were processed accordingly. 

Theft/Shoplifting - Employees of Morgan's Liquors on Irvington Ave reported a shoplifting on Saturday, Jan. 20, at approximately 3:45 p.m. An unknown actor entered the store and stole two bottles of Nectar Imperial Champagne. The actor is described as a 5'-4", black male, age 18-24, wearing a ski hat, dark brown jacket, a navy blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and boots.  

Warrant Arrest - Maurice Nwamara, a 20 year old Plainfield resident was arrested on Monday, Jan. 29, for an outstanding arrest warrant out of Fanwood. Officers stopped a black colored BMW for a motor vehicle violation at the intersection of South Orange Ave and Vose Ave. A record check of the driver (Nwamara) at the scene of the traffic stop revealed the active warrant.  Officers arrested Nwamara and transported him to headquarters for processing.Warrant Arrest - Cheyenne Pittman, a 31 year old Hillside resident was arrested on Sunday, Jan. 28, at approximately 1:12 p.m. for outstanding arrest warrants out of Newark and Hillside. Officers stopped a tan colored Honda for a motor vehicle violation at the intersection of South Orange Ave. and Centre St.  A records check of the driver (Pittman) at the scene of the traffic stop revealed the active arrest warrants.  Officers arrested Pittman and transported him to headquarters where he was processed accordingly.

Warrant Arrest - Warren McClean, a 57 year old Newark resident was arrested on Friday, Jan. 26, at approximately 6 a.m. for numerous outstanding arrest warrants out of Orange. Officers responded to the 7-Eleven on Valley Street on a call for a possible shoplifting in progress and upon arrival, officers located the subject still inside the store.  During the on-scene investigation, a records check revealed the active warrants and officers arrested McClean without further incident, then transported him to headquarters for processing.

Warrant Arrest - Stephanie Chambers, a 53 year old Elizabeth resident was arrested on Monday, Jan. 22, at approximately 9:40 p.m. for outstanding arrest warrants out of Newark and Monroe Township. Officers responded to the 7-Eleven on Valley St on a suspicious person call and during the on-scene investigation, a records check on the subject (Chambers) revealed the active warrants. Officers arrested Chambers without further incident & transported her to headquarters for processing. 

Juvenile Arrest - Robbery - A Maplewood juvenile was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at approximately 1:55 p.m. for robbery. According to the victim, she along with three other teen-aged females were walking across the pedestrian bridge located at the rear of the South Orange Department of Public Works towards Waterlands Park when they were approached by two black males wearing masks covering parts of their faces. The subjects grabbed the victim's backpack and pulled her to the ground.  After a brief struggle, the subjects were able to obtain the victim's backpack and they then fled the scene towards Waterlands Park.  Officers quickly responded to the area and were able to apprehend one of the subjects inside Waterlands Park. Officers transported the juvenile male to headquarters where he was processed accordingly.  A search for the second subject was negative. The victim sustained some minor injuries, which were treated by EMS personnel.  The Detective Bureau is actively investigating the incident.
