South Orange Police Blotter as of June 23
Burglary to a dwelling; A So. Ridgewood Rd. resident stated that when he pulled into his driveway on June 21 at approximately 2:55 p.m., he observed a Hispanic male in his twenties, approximately 5'4" in height, short dark hair and wearing a white t-shirt fleeing from his residence. Upon further examination it was discovered that the actor had entered the dwelling via an unlocked front door and fled the scene via the rear door. Responding officers extensively searched the area with negative results. At the time of the report no items were reported stolen. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
Theft; A Vose Ave. resident stated that sometime during the overnight hours of June 22, an unknown actor(s) had removed a three foot tall cement bird bath from the side of his property.
Burglary to property; A Third St. resident stated that on June 20 at approximately 1:46 a.m., she observed an actor described as a black male wearing a white hooded sweatshirt inside her roommate's vehicle (2009 Ford Mustang) which was parked in the driveway. The actor was last observed fleeing the scene on foot south on Academy St. Responding officers canvassed the area with negative results. No items were stolen during the incident and there were no signs of a forced entry into the vehicle.
Attempted burglary to vehicle/arrest; Jewell Melbourne, an 18 year old Maplewood resident, was arrested on June 20 at approximately 6:30 a.m., after a witness notified the police that the subject later identified as the above was observed trying to gain entry into a vehicle on Kingsland Ter. The subject fled the scene of the attempt and was apprehended by responding officers as they observed same in the NJ Transit lot adjacent to Church St. The subject was positively identified by the witness, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.
