South Orange Police Blotter - Maplewood Man Arrested for Burglary

Attempted Theft - A Valley Street resident reported on Wednesday, March 28, at approximately 3:17 a.m, he observed an unknown actor attempt to steal his neighbor's ATV. The witness described the actor as a medium built, black male in his 20's, wearing a dark zip up sweatshirt and black pants and observed him rolling the ATV out of his neighbor's backyard and up the driveway. After unsuccessfully trying to start the ATV, the actor fled the scene, direction unknown. Police responded to the area, but a search for the actor proved negative and the ATV's owner was notified of the incident.

Adult Arrest - Iljewell Melbourne, a 19 year old Maplewood resident, was arrested on Tuesday, March 28, at approximately 6:54 p.m. for burglary. Officers responded to Fifth Street, on the report of a witness who called police and stated that two actors were breaking into a parked vehicle. The witness described the first actor as a black male wearing all black clothing with a reflective stripe on his pants and the second actor as a black male wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and a tan hat. The witness yelled at the actors and they both fled the scene heading east on Fifth Street. Officers responded to the area and quickly apprehended the second actor (Iljewel Melbourne) without further incident. Officers searched the area for the first actor, but with negative results. Officers transported Melbourne to headquarters where he was processed accordingly.

Warrant Arrest - Ahmod Sullivan, a 23 year old Newark resident, was arrested on Tuesday, March 28, at approximately 1:34 a.m. for multiple outstanding arrest warrants out of Irvington, Rahway, and the Essex County Sheriff's Department. Officers stopped Sullivan after they observed him walking in the middle of South Orange Avenue, acting erratically and affecting traffic. During the investigative stop, officers discovered the multiple active warrants and the subject was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. Concerned for the subject's safety, officers called for medical assistance and the South Orange Rescue Squad arrived and subsequently transported Sullivan to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment. After returning from the hospital, Sullivan was turned over to the Essex County Sheriff's Department.

Adult Arrest - CDS - Miguel Garrido, a 23 year old Monmouth resident, and Semhar Gebregzabher, a 21 year old Madison resident, were arrested on Monday, March 27, at approximately 12:09 a.m. for possession of CDS (marijuana). Officers stopped Garrido, who was driving a 2011 Kia for a motor vehicle violation, at the intersection of Irvington Ave. and Riggs Place. After further investigation during the motor vehicle stop, officers determined that both Garrido and Gebregzabher (a passenger in the vehicle) were in possession of marijuana, as well as paraphernalia. Officers arrested both subjects without incident and transported them to headquarters where they were processed accordingly.

Criminal Mischief - A Third Street resident reported that on Saturday, March 25, between midnight and 7:30 a.m., actor(s) unknown ripped off a three foot piece of siding from her residence and damaged a stair rail on the back porch. The incident is being investigated.

Warrant Arrest - Isaiah Carter, a 24 year old East Orange resident was arrested on Friday, March 24, at approximately 3:37 p.m. for an outstanding arrest warrant out of South Orange. Officers responded to the Essex County Probationary Center, where Carter was being held on the warrant and arrested Carter without incident. Officers transported Carter to headquarters, where he was processed accordingly.
