SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The community came out on Wednesday to celebrate the newly renovated and revitalized Spiotta Park, which at the corner of South Orange Avenue and Village Plaza, is in the heart of downtown South Orange.

Matt Glass, Chair of the South Orange Village Center Alliance (SOVCA) Board of Directors, welcomed all and shared his gratitude to those who worked together to spruce-up and renovate Spiotta Park. Glass said that there are plans to rejuvenate the other small parks throughout downtown South Orange as well.

Glass recognized many people for their contributions, including Bob Zuckerman, Executive Director of SOVCA, Melissa Hodge, SOVCA's Events and Operations Associate, the South Orange Board of Trustees, Adam Loehner, Acting South ORange Village Administrator, and Sandy Martiny, South Orange Director of Cultural Affairs.

Glass also thanked Dan Fenelon, the artist who created the mural, Spirit of Spiotta, Cat Fisher and Andrew Kit, who were at the dedication of the park on behalf of the Academy Heights Neighborhood Association, and Michael Scalora who provided landscaping and gardening expertise

“Spiotta Park is looking the best it’s looked since my tenure at SOVCA began in 2013," said Zuckerman. "Spiotta will be a great space for our residents and visitors alike to congregate all summer long, including on weekend evenings during our Downtown After Sundown concerts."

"We are so grateful to all of our partners in this project who brought us to the point where we can finally be proud of our one and only downtown park," stated Zuckerman.

The dedication ceremony ended with the fountain in the rejuvenated pool being turned on to a round of applause from the audience.
