UNION, NJ – A ribbon cutting ceremony took place Friday afternoon at The Halal Guys new restaurant located at 2317 Route 22.

“It’s a pleasure to be in this town,” said Franchise owner Khattab Abuattieh.  “We have felt nothing but welcomed.”

Union Mayor Suzette Cavadas, Committeemen Manuel Figueiredo and Clifton People, Jr. and Union Fire Chief Mike Scanio were among those on hand to help celebrate the ribbon cutting.  “We welcome you to Union,” said Mayor Cavadas.  “And wish you the best of luck in your business.”

The grand opening of The Halal Guys Union restaurant occurred on Saturday morning.  Halal food first gained acclaim at the corner of West 53rd Street and Sixth Avenue more than 25 years ago. In the past year, The Halal Guys have opened in Newark, Atlanta, Seattle, San Francisco, Dallas, Philadelphia, and New Orleans.
