MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The Bob Miller Oysterfest was held for its third year on Saturday, September 16, at The Woodland in downtown Maplewood. New to event this year were food trucks, a repositioned bandstand, and a new layout for the VIP tent. The event also provided more games and activities for kids during the afternoon then in prior years. Most importantly, there were free on-site melanoma screenings throughout the afternoon.

John Meade, Jr., owner of St. James's Gate which is one of the event sponsors, said “this is the third year for the Oysterfest. We had about one thousand people the first year and about two thousand the second and the ticket sales this year are way ahead of last year."

Originally started in 2015 by Grace Miller as a small fundraiser for melanoma research, the event has grown to be one of Maplewood’s most popular annual events. Grace Miller’s husband, Bob Miller, passed away in 2014 after a long battle with melanoma, which is considered to be the most deadly form of skin cancer.

"Bob was on his way to being a big name in the architectural world. Melanoma is one of the most aggressive forms of cancer. Last year the Dermatologists giving free scans during the day caught a couple of cases and hopefully in time to make a difference. Today is a big party with the proceeds going to Melanoma research and some to the Enright Melanoma Foundation," shared Meade.
