BURLINGTON, NJ – Three SOMA arts organizations have been nominated for Discover Jersey Arts People's Choice Awards, and South Orange also has a nomination in the category "Favorite Downtown Arts District."
In addition to South Orange's nomination for Downtown Arts District, the other nominees are:
- SOMA Film Festival for Favorite Film Festival
- South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) for Favorite Small Performing Arts Center (described as venues with 1,000 or fewer seats)
- State Repertory Opera of New Jersey for Favorite Opera Company
SOPAC has won Favorite Small Performing Arts Center for the past four years, the only years this category has been part of the Discover Jersey Arts People's Choice Awards.
This year, the SOMA Film Festival is being nominated for a third consecutive time, as it has been since the festival's inaugural year.
"It's always an honor to be nominated for Best Film Fest, and to be nominated as many times as we've been in existence makes it extra special," shared Matt Smollon, SOMA Film Festival Founder and Director.
South Orange has been nominated for the second year in a row for Favorite Downtown Arts District, which is an honor, said Bob Zuckerman, Executive Director of the South Orange Village Center Alliance.
"Whether it’s SOPAC, our award-winning performing arts center, our amazing free summer concert series, Downtown After Sundown, the new Undercover Music Fest on Sloan Street and a new mural program, we’ve got the arts covered here in our Village Center. We hope everyone will vote for South Orange in the Jersey Arts People’s Choice Awards!” said Zuckerman.
Last year more than 18,000 ballots were cast, according to the Discover Jersey Arts website.
