MAPLEWOOD, NJ - A tractor trailer hit a utility pole on Van Ness Court early Friday morning, closing the street as well as part of the neighboring street, Van Ness Terrace.

According to Carl Patterson, who lives near where the accident occurred, he was awakened at about 2:30 a.m. by the sound of police and fire sirens, and when he went outside, it appeared that when a tractor trailer attempted to drive under low handing cables and wires, the truck became caught and took down a utility pole on Van Ness Court.

The collision resulted in the pole blocking the street, with cables and wires blocking access in and out of Van Ness Court, as well as blocking street access to several homes on on Van Ness Terrace.

Patterson said that there were no electrical wires involved, so police officers were able to move the wires and cables from the street so that the street could re-open to vehicular traffic.
