SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ - An active homicide investigation is currently underway in Springfield.
The Union County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force is investigating a possible homicide on Meckes Street.
Springfield police were called to Meckes Street Monday afternoon. The street is closed from South Springfield Avenue to Stiles Street as the investigation continues.
According to information released at just before 9 p.m. on June 27 by TAP Into Montclair, the victim is Thomas C. Brown, a longtime employee of Martin’s Funeral Home for Service of Montclair, where he has worked since 1977. Brown is a native of Montclair.
Brown was killed in a domestic dispute allegedly involving a relative, sources close to the incident have revealed, according to the story from TAP Into Montclair.
According to the article, a source close to the family stated that Brown's 52-year-old daughter may have been killed in the incident as well. This information has not yet been confirmed by authorities.
Brown was a licensed funeral director, graduate of Eckles College of Mortuary Science, Temple University (Mortuary Science), Rutgers University (Business) and Atlantic School of Insurance. He was a United States Army veteran and served as a member of American Legion Post 251 in Montclair.
"There is an active and ongoing investigation," Mark Spivey, Communications Director for the Union County Prosecutor's Office said, No further comment was issued.
