UNION, NJ - The Township of Union will be hosting a Women's History Month celebration with a series of "Celebrate Women, What to Know After the Women's March," events. This three-part series, focused on celebrating, informing and empowering women, will be held at Town Hall, 1976 Morris Avenue.

“Based on the thousands of women who assembled in New Jersey alone in January, it is evident that collectively, women feel undervalued and underrepresented,” said Mayor Suzette Cavadas. “Many are searching for direction, encouragement, or just a forum to ask important questions. We hope our series will provide just that.”

The series kicks off with "Protecting Women's Rights", on Wednesday, March 8, International Day of the Woman. The keynote speaker is Diane DuBrule, Interim Executive Director, ACLU-NJ.

The program will also feature the presentation of the Woman of the Year Award and a panel discussion featuring Lizette Delgado-Polanco, Deputy Political Director of the North Carpenter’s Council; Elizabeth Meyer, Organizer of the Women's March on NJ; and Christine Sadovy, Advocacy Director, Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey.

The series continues with "Empowering Women Voters: Building a Movement," scheduled for Monday, March 20.  A panel discussion on empowering women voters is planned, featuring Lydia Kaplan, organizer of the Women's March on Westfield; Julie Diaz, Political Director at 32BJ SEIU; and Marie-Marthelle Guereville of Parano and Associates.

Closing the series will be an event entitled "Young Women: Planting Seeds of Change", scheduled for Monday, March 27. A panel discussion will include Alex Torpey, Former Village President of South Orange and 2011 youngest Mayor of NJ; Sara Todisco, Garwood Councilwoman; Paramus Councilwoman Holly Tedesco-Santos; and Erin Loos Cutraro, Founder of the non-partisan 501c-3 organization, She Should Run.

“We want women to know that it’s never too early to start thinking about how you can make a difference,” said Cavadas.

The events are interactive and will feature questions from the audience. All events begin at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 1976 Morris Ave. in Union, and are free of charge.  Light refreshments will be served.
