Winter Storm Warning for Tuesday; Schools to Close Early

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the region, calling for heavy snow with accumulations of 6 - 10 inches, winds of 10 - 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 30 MPH, temperature highs in the upper teens to lower 20's Tuesday morning dropping into the single digits with wind chills as low as 10 below zero late Tuesday night.

Snowfall is expected to begin late Tuesday morning and will continue through the night, tapering off early Wednesday morning.  The heaviest snowfall will occur late this afternoon into tonight, with visibility of one quarter mile or less.

Falling, blowing and drifting snow will cause hazardous travel and walking conditions, and may impact the late afternoon and evening commute.

Today (Tuesday): Snow, mainly after 10 a.m. The snow could be heavy at times. Temperature falling to around 15 by 4pm. Wind chill values as low as -1. North wind 8 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Tonight: Snow with widespread blowing snow before 3am, then widespread blowing snow and a chance of snow after 3am. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 8. Wind chill values as low as -7. North wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 17. Wind chill values as low as -9. Northwest wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Wednesday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 6. Wind chill values as low as -3. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph.

Millburn schools will each close one hour earlier than normal.
