SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - A South Orange woman , age 70, was struck by a vehicle driven by a Maplewood resident, age 63, at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17. The victim was crossing Walton Avenue, according to an update from South Orange police on their Facebook page.

According to South Orange police, preliminary investigation showed that the woman appeared to have been crossing in the crosswalk, at the intersection of Walton Avenue and Thornden Street.

South Orange police report that the victim at this time "appears to have suffered non life-threatening injuries and was alert and conscious upon being transported to hospital."

The driver was issued a summons for failing to yield to a pedestrian, and the investigation remains ongoing, according to South Orange police.

This is the second pedestrian accident in South Orange in the past week. On Saturday, two Maplewood teenagers were struck by a vehicle while crossing South Orange Avenue in the crosswalk.
