On April 24, a 48-year-old Newark man was arrested for shoplifting at the Rite Aid store on South Orange Avenue. Employees called 911 to report the incident and gave a description of the suspect. Officers found the man hiding in a yard on Milligan Place where he was arrested. All of the stolen items, which were approximately $400 worth of cough medicine, was also recovered in the yard. The man was wanted by the Essex County Sheriff's Department and ultimately transported to the County Jail.
On April 26, a woman in her early 20s stole a Bluetooth speaker from 7-11 on Valley Street. When police arrived suspect had fled on foot through the rear yards toward 2nd Street and avoided apprehension. The Detective Bureau is investigating.
Burglary To Autos
On April 27, around 2 a.m. several residents reported their vehicles were broken into and one resident had video of the suspect attempting to open one of the car doors to a vehicle in their driveway. The Detective Bureau is investigating.
On April 27, a Franklin Place resident reported three bikes were stolen from an unlocked garage sometime between March 25 and April 27.
Burglary to Residence
On April 27, during the overnight hours a person entered a residence on Fielding Court through a backdoor and stole a wallet, cash and the victim's vehicle that was parked in the driveway. The vehicle was recovered two days later in Newark. The South Orange Police Department did not have a description of the suspects. The Detective Bureau is investigating.
On April 26, an employee from The Wine Emporium on Valley Street reported a woman stole two bottles of Ciroc Vodka. The South Orange Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
