South Orange Police Blotter as of March 16
Adult Arrest/Shoplifting - William Minitee, a 45 year old Irvington resident was arrested on Thursday, March 8, at approximately 12:40 p.m. for shoplifting. Security officers at the Stop & Shop on Valley Street observed Minitee conceal several items on his person and then flee the store without paying for the items. Officers stopped a subject who matched the description given by security on Academy Street and after further investigation, determined the subject (Minitee) was the actor involved in the theft. Officers arrested Minitee without incident and transported him to headquarters where he was processed accordingly.
Adult Arrest/DWI - Jose Calderonmelgar, a 38 year old Plainfield resident, was arrested on Saturday, March 10, at approximately 11:26 p.m. for DWI. Officers responded to the main entrance of Seton Hall University (SHU) to investigate a vehicle (2000 Chevy) that was blocking the entrance. Upon arrival officers observed that the vehicle's driver (Calderonmelgar) asleep behind the wheel. After further investigation at the scene officers determined that Calderonmelgar was intoxicated. Officers arrested Calderonmelgar for DWI and transported him to headquarters. During the search incident to arrest, officers found marijuana in Calderonmelgar's possession and also observed several open bottles of liquor inside the vehicle. Officers impounded the vehicle and charged Calderonmelgar accordingly.
Warrant Arrest - John Shapinski, a 30 year old North Brunswick resident was arrested on Tuesday, March 13, at approximately 11:38 a.m. for an outstanding arrest warrant out of Highland Park. Officers responded to the train station on a report of a suspicious person and located a subject (Shapinski) who matched the given description. After further investigation at the scene, a records check revealed the active warrant and officers arrested Shapinski without incident. Officers transported Shapinski to headquarters where he was processed accordingly.
Warrant Arrest - Edward Adams, a 28 year old South Orange resident was arrested on Tuesday, March 13, at approximately 8 p.m. for an outstanding arrest warrant out of South Orange. Adams had reported to police headquarters to speak with detectives about a recent incident and a records check revealed the active warrant. Detectives arrested Adams without incident and he was processed accordingly.
