South Orange Police Blotter as of July 1

Auto Theft - A Seton Pl. resident reported that sometime between 11:00 pm, Wednesday 6-27-18 and 7:00 am, Thursday 6-28-18 actor(s) unknown stole his vehicle (2005 Toyota ), which was parked in the driveway at the time. The actor(s) entered another one of the victim's vehicles that was parked in the driveway, rummaged through the interior & found keys belonging to the Toyota, which were used to steal the auto.  At approximately 11:45 am, Thursday 6-28-18, the stolen Toyota was located on Eastern Parkway in Newark after the driver struck a utility pole & fled the scene on foot.  SOPD units responded and recovered the vehicle.  A witness at the scene described the actor as a black male with dread locks, wearing a black hoodie & blue jeans.  He was last seen fleeing towards Dover St. in Newark.  The Detective Bureau processed the vehicle for evidence and is investigating the incident.

Theft - A Prospect St. resident reported that sometime between 6:00 pm, Wednesday 6-27-18 & 6:00 am, Thursday 6-28-18 actor(s) unknown stole all four rims & tires off his vehicle, which was parked in a lot at Irvington Ave & Prospect St. at the time. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Burglary/Theft of bicycle - A Kingman Rd resident reported that at approximately 8:00 pm, Tuesday 6-26-18 an unknown actor entered her garage and stole her pink bicycle. A neighbor observed the actor (described as a 15-17 year old black male, wearing a white shirt, black pants with a black shirt wrapped around his waist) riding down the driveway and then eventually towards Newark.  The Detective Bureau responded to process the scene.

Theft of bicycle - A Wyoming Ave resident reported that sometime between 6:50 am, Tuesday 6-26-18 & 7:30 pm, Wednesday 6-27-18 actor(s) unknown stole her electric bicycle that she had left locked & secured to the bike rack under the main train station.

Theft of bicycle - A Maplewood resident reported that sometime between 12:00 noon & 1:30 pm, Monday 6-25-18 actor(s) unknown stole two bicycles from the bike rack next to the So. Orange Municipal Pool. One bike was a black, green & white Cannondale road bike & the other was a blue & black Trek bike.  Neither bicycle was locked/secured to the rack at the time of the theft.  So. Orange Detectives recovered the two bicycles soon after they were reported stolen at a location on Church Street.

Theft (Packages) - A Milligan Pl resident reported that sometime between 8:00 am & 6:00 pm, Thursday 6-21-18 actor(s) unknown stole her package that was confirmed delivered by the US Postal Service, from the vestibule area of the apartment building.

Burglary to Auto - A Tichenor Ave resident reported that sometime between 9:00 pm, Saturday 6-23-18 & 8:00 am, Sunday 6-24-18 actor(s) unknown entered her vehicle, while in was parked in her driveway, rummaged through the interior & stole several personal items.

Theft of Bicycle - A Warren Ct. resident reported that sometime between Saturday, 6-16-18 & Saturday 6-23-18, actor(s) unknown entered her garage and stole her maroon, black & red Specialized brand, woman's road bike. There were no signs of forced entry to the garage.

Auto Theft - A So. Orange resident reported that at approximately 11:30 pm, Friday 6-22-18 an unknown actor stole his vehicle (2012 Toyota), while it was briefly parked (engine running, doors unlocked) in front of his business on Village Plaza. The victim last saw the vehicle heading east on So. Orange Ave.

Auto Theft - A Newark resident reported that sometime between 5:00 & 5:50 pm, Friday 6-22-18 actor(s) unknown stole her vehicle (2008 Mercedes-Benz), while it was parked in a rear lot at 7 Fairview Ave.

Adult Arrest - Theft - Aaron King, a 35 year old So. Orange resident was arrested on Thursday, 6-21-18 at 8:40 pm for theft after he refused to pay for his bill at a local restaurant on W. So. Orange Ave. Employees of the restaurant chased & detained King after he ran out of the restaurant in an attempt to not pay for his meal & drinks.  Officers arrived & arrested King without further incident and transported him to headquarters where he was processed accordingly.  

Theft - So. Orange Postal Employees reported that at approximately 2:30 on Wednesday, 6-20-18, an unknown actor who purchased a money order, reached over the counter and stole several (93 total) blank money orders and ran out of the post office. 

Auto Theft - A Speir Dr resident reported that sometime between 8:00 pm, Tuesday 6-19-18 & 2:00 am, Wednesday 6-20-18 actor(s) unknown entered his garage & stole his auto (2015 Mercedes-Benz). It appeared the actor(s) also entered another of the victim's vehicles and rummaged through the interior, though nothing was reported missing at the time.  Both vehicle were unlocked.  Detectives responded to process the scene & are investigating the incidents.

Theft of Bicycle - A Maplewood resident reported that sometime between 12:00 & 1:00 pm, Wednesday 6-20-18, actor(s) unknown stole his grey, Fuji brand mountain bike, which he had left locked & secured to the bike rack at the So. Orange Train Station on Sloan St.

Burglary to Auto - A Speir Dr resident reported that sometime between 10:00 pm, Wednesday 6-19-18 & 0600, Thursday 6-20-18 actor(s) unknown entered her unlocked vehicle, which was parked in the driveway at the time, rummaged through the interior & stole a cell phone charger, cash & some loose change.
