South Orange Police Blotter as of June 21

Burglary - The owner of a business on Vose Avenue reported that sometime between 12:45 p.m., Sunday, June 17,  and 10 a.m., Monday, June 18, actor(s) unknown forcibly gained access to the business through the front door, rummaged through cabinets and desks and removed some personal items (including Bose brand speakers and a laptop computer) belonging to the owner as well as employees. Detectives responded to process the scene and the incident is being investigated.

Burglary to Auto - A Maplewood resident reported that sometime between 5 p.m. Monday, June 18, and 8 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, actor(s) unknown entered his unlocked vehicle, which was parked on Ralston Avenue at the time and removed his Apple Macbook laptop computer.

Adult Arrest - DWI - Najimah Sheffield, a 30 year old Newark resident was arrested on Sunday, June 17, at approximately 12:55 a.m. for DWI. Officers were responding to a call for a disabled vehicle on West South Orange Avenue, when they observed an auto with heavy front end damage that matched the description of the vehicle traveling east on the avenue. Officers stopped the vehicle near Valley Street and during the motor vehicle stop, determined that the driver (Sheffield) was DWI.  Officers impounded the vehicle and arrested Sheffield without further incident.  Officers then transported Sheffield to headquarters where she was processed accordingly.  

Theft - A South Orange resident reported that sometime between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., June 16, unknown actor(s) stole his cell phone (iPhone 6) and a credit card from his bag, which was unattended while he was playing basketball at the South Orange Community Center.
