South Orange Police Blotter as of Jan. 22
Burglary - A Varsity Road resident reported that sometime between 1:00 and 10:00 am on Sunday, Jan. 13, actor(s) unknown entered her residence and stole a set of keys. It appeared the actor(s) gained entry through a window on the side of the house and exited via a rear door. Detectives responded to process the scene and the incident is currently being investigated.
Theft of Packages - Two Varsity Road residents reported that sometime between 4:00 and 5:30 pm, Friday, Jan. 18, actor(s) unknown stole packages that had been confirmed delivered off the front porches of the houses. A home security surveillance camera captured one of the thefts and the detective bureau is investigating the incidents.
Adult Arrest - Christopher Cook, a 39 year old Newark resident was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 17, at approximately 10:00 for an outstanding arrest warrant out of Newark. Detectives, familiar with the subject and aware of the active warrant, observed Cook walking on Irvington Avenue near Tichenor Avenue. Detectives stopped Cook and arrested him for the warrant without further incident. Officers transported Cook to headquarters to be processed. Once at headquarters, Cook gave detectives a statement in regards to his involvement in a burglary to auto (on Stanley Road) and fraudulent credit card use that subsequently occurred the day before. Detectives charged Cook accordingly.
Adult Arrest-CDS - Jamal Jackson, a 24 year old Newark resident was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at approximately 11:15 pm for possession of CDS (marijuana). Officers stopped a suspicious person, who appeared to be smoking a marijuana cigarette at the corner of of South Orange Avenue and Montrose Street. Upon further investigation during the stop, officers determined that the subject (Jackson) was in possession of several small bags of marijuana and arrested him without incident. Officers transported him to headquarters where a records check reveled an outstanding arrest warrant out of Union. Officers processed and charged Jackson accordingly.
Burglary to Auto - A Newark resident reported that sometime between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm, Wednesday, Jan. 16, actor(s) unknown entered her vehicle while it was parked on South Orange Ave near Stanley Road and stole her black purse, which contained several forms of identification, multiple credit cards and her checkbook. It appears the actor(s) smashed the front side passenger window to gain entry and also damaged all four seats by puncturing them with an unknown object. Detectives responded and processed the vehicle for evidence.
Burglary to Auto - A 3rd St. resident reported that sometime between 9:00 pm and 11:30 pm Tuesday, Jan. 15, actor(s) unknown entered his unlocked vehicle, rummaged through the interior and stole his blue North Face backpack, which contained two laptop computers and personal items.
Attempted Burglary to Autos - An Overhill Road resident reported that at approximately 1:30 am, Sunday Jan. 13, his home security surveillance system captured two unknown actors attempting to enter his vehicles by pulling on the door handles. Both actors appear to be males, and were dressed in dark clothing with hoods/masks covering their faces. The actors fled the scene when a motion activated light came on. Both vehicles were locked and the actors were unable to gain entry.
Burglary to Auto - A University Court resident reported that sometime between 9:30 pm, Tuesday, Jan. 8 and 8:00 am, Wednesday, Jan. 9, actor(s) unknown entered her unlocked vehicle, rummaged through the interior and stole her Garmin GPS and some loose change.
Burglary to Autos - A Ward Place resident reported that sometime between 11:00 pm, Tuesday, Jan. 8, and 8:00 am, Wednesday, Jan. 9, actor(s) unknown entered two unlocked vehicles and rummaged through the interiors. Actor(s) stole a small amount of money from one of the vehicles.
