South Orange Police Blotter - Two Arrested for Robbery in South Orange

Adult Arrest - Robbery - Shawn Ray Newsome, a 20 year old Newark resident and a 17 year old juvenile were arrested on Saturday, Feb. 3, at approximately 10:45 p.m. for robbery. Two male victims reported that as they were walking on South Orange Ave near the Newark border, they were approached by three actors (described as black males wearing dark clothing and black masks) who grabbed them and forcibly stole their wallets and a set of keys. The actors then fled east on South Orange Ave into Newark. Officers quickly responded and located two subjects who matched the description given at the intersection of South Orange Ave and Monticello Ave in Newark.  After further investigation at the scene, officers determined that the two subjects were the actors (Newsome and the juvenile) involved in the robbery. Officers arrested both actors without further incident and transported them to headquarters where they were processed accordingly.  A search for the third actor was negative and the detective bureau continues to investigate the incident.  

Adult Arrest - Shoplifting - Torre Garrett, a 40 year old Newark resident was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at approximately 3:40 p.m. for shoplifting. Officers responded to the Rite Aid on a call for a shoplifter who was being chased by the store's security manager. Officers located the actor (Garrett) on Prospect St and placed him under arrest without further incident. Officers transported Garrett to headquarters for processing and a records check during booking revealed multiple outstanding arrest warrants out of several jurisdictions. Garrett was charged accordingly.

Adult Arrest - CDS - Jakia Wright-Daniels, a 36 year old Pennsylvania resident was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 8, for possession of CDS (marijuana). Officers stopped a blue Acura for a motor vehicle violation on Sloan St. During the traffic stop, officers determined that the driver of the vehicle (Wright-Daniels) was in possession of marijuana.  Officer arrested Wright-Daniels without further incident and transported her to headquarters where she was processed accordingly.

Shoplifting - An employee of Morgan's Liquors on Irvington Ave reported on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at approximately 5:50 p.m. that an unknown actor (described as an unshaven black male, about 6'0" and 200 lbs, wearing a back coat & maroon hoodie) hid a one liter bottle of E&J Brandy under his coat and left the store without paying. The detective bureau is investigating the incident.

Burglary to Auto - An Arnold Terr resident reported on Wednesday, Feb.7, at approximately 7:10 a.m., as she was walking to her vehicle, which was parked on College place, she observed an unknown actor sitting in the front passenger seat. The actor (whom the victim described as a black male, about 6'0" to 6'2" in height with a large muscular frame, wearing a black jacket over a blue hoodie and black pants) fled toward Wilden Pl when the victim confronted him. Police searched the area, but could not locate the actor. The vehicle's interior was ransacked, though nothing appears to have been taken and there was no physical damage.

Theft - A Trustee from a church on Valley Street reported that sometime between Monday, Jan. 1, and Thursday, Feb. 1, unknown actor(s) unlawfully removed two antique wooden doors from the rear parking area of the church. The doors are red with black wrought iron hardware and are original to the church. The detective bureau is investigating the incident.

Warrant Arrest - Isaiah Reed, a 20 year old Paterson resident was arrested on Monday, Feb. 5, at approximately 11:08 a.m. for an active arrest warrant out of Paterson. Officers responded to the intersection of Centre St and Irving Ave on a report of a subject who was acting erratically in the middle of the street.  Once at the scene, a records check revealed the outstanding warrant and officers arrested Reed. Officers then transported him to headquarters for processing.
