Homewatch CareGivers of South Orange holds annual training program for 100+ caregivers on Zoom. Each year Homewatch Caregivers arranges for multiple days of training for the caregiver staff to increase and improve their knowledge and practice in the care of their clients. Since it was not safe to hold trainings, with large numbers of people, Homewatch arranged three separate Zoom meetings to accommodate different schedules. While HW clinical and administrative staff meetings have been taking place on zoom for over a year, training for the so many caregivers were more complicated.

“What a wonderful sight,” Larry Aronson, owner of Homewatch exclaimed as he greeted dozens of caregivers with a resounding, “So good to see so many of you,” expressing how much he missed seeing them at the annual in-service training and at regular visits to the office in South Orange. Larry described how 2020 was a “tough” year and reviewed aspects of what took place and how changes were implemented trying to make caregiving a little easier.

Looking back at 2020 Larry addressed the issues of illness and death, isolation and fear, the appropriate/necessary use of PPE and increased measures to keep our caregivers as safe as possible in their role as essential workers. He reviewed how Homewatch created one of the first in-house agency testing centers and the education and encouragement to get our staff vaccinated. One session of the training explained how and what has changed for those who have been fully vaccinated; something that is continuously updated as the CDC and Department of Health better understand COVID-19 and the impact of vaccinations. 

Expanded use of technology, increased communication, a new and improved application process, and online orientation for new staff have been implemented to make work life easier.
