“La Promesse,” an award-winning foreign film about how a father and son encounter immigrants in 1990s Europe, will be screened on Sunday, December 9, at 2 p.m., at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts, 10 Durand Road, Maplewood.
A $15 donation is suggested.
The event will be hosted by La Cinematheque film club and co-sponsored by the Maplewood Office of Cultural Affairs.
Gerard Ansellem, the founder of La Cinematheque, will introduce the film and moderate the post-viewing discussion. A local filmmaker and educator, Ansellem established the club in 2011 to feature frequent foreign film viewings and bring quality film education to South Orange and Maplewood.
Discussions on the films center upon the culture and politics of the country as presented on screen, as well as the artistic content and humanity of the characters.
