The Purposes and Rhythms of Jewish Living

Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel in South Orange to Host and Teach Melton Jewish Adult Education Series, Starting October 18

Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI), the Reform synagogue in South Orange. The program, will host The Purposes and Rhythms of Jewish Living, a two-pronged course from the Florence Melton Adult Education series, starting on Oct. 18.It will be taught by Rabbi Daniel Cohen and Max Weisenfeld, a religious school teacher and vice president of education on the TSTI Board of Trustees. Classes will meet weekly from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will run through May 30, 2018.

The course gives participants a framework to integrate past and future learning while challenging them to find their voice amidst Judaism’s diverse tradition.

  • The Purposes of Jewish Living explores both ancient and modern responses to many of the major issues of Jewish thought and theology.
  • The Rhythms of Jewish Living examines a wide variety of Jewish sources to discover the deeper meanings underlying Jewish holidays, lifecycle observances and Jewish practice.

There are no classes on November 22 and December 27, 2017 and February 21 and April 11, 2018. The annual fee is $500 for TSTI members and $675 for JCC and partner synagogue members. The cost includes books and supplies.

No knowledge of Hebrew is required to enroll in the Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning. The program is administered through the JCC of Greater MetroWest New Jersey.
