MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Roger and Josefina Stevens may have had the ribbon cutting for their casual menswear store on October 12, but their brand is already familiar to many local men. During their four years in West Orange, the owners of City Workshop were repeatedly wooed by South Orange and Maplewood customers. Shoppers kept telling them that the two towns were lacking menswear retail. When an opportunity arose this year for space in Maplewood village, they took it and moved the shop in July. “The community has embraced us,” said Josefina. “We are so happy to be here on Baker Street.”

The wears have a definite rugged vibe, including denim in wide price points, Red Wing shoes and boots, and socks woven with silver thread so they can be worn more than once between washings. “All the guys are gonna be stylin’,” Josefina said. “If they have a contest for best dressed dads, Maplewood and South Orange are going to win.” She pointed out that they carry a lot of USA-based brands, and brands that give back to causes, including supporting the environment and the military.

Customer Jason Evans of West Orange was trying on a pair of boots with his wife looking on. When they used to live in Maplewood, he said they traveled to West Orange to shop at City Workshop; now the commute will be reversed. “Every time we come here we find stuff we love,” he said.
