SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Though they've been open for several weeks, K Kakes Cakery held their official Grand Opening and ribbon cutting on Saturday, May 5, with family, friends, customers and local officials there to wish the new business well.

South Orange Village President Sheena Collum and South Orange trustees Steve Schnall and Deborah Davis Ford were at the opening as well as Bob Zuckerman, Executive Director of the South Orange Village Center Alliance (SOVCA) and Steve Pedigo, Vice Chairman of SOVCA.

All gathered for the official ribbon cutting in front of the cafe, which is located at 165 Valley St., in the ground floor of the 3rd & Valley apartment building. Zuckerman shared the long journey owners Danya and Michael Mowatt had in locating the ideal spot for their cafe.

Zuckerman also shared that the Mowatts are South Orange residents, and that he is glad this new business is locally owned.

Collum also shared her congratulations to the Mowatts, and noted that the opening of K Kakes is part of the overall revitalization of the Valley Street corridor, and a a great addition to the Academy Heights neighborhood.

In addition to baked goods and Jamaican specialties, K Cakes also offers a variety of teas, coffees, and other drinks, free wi fi, and live music and karoke on some nights.
