SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The South Orange Village Center Alliance (SOVCA) held its annual meeting on Wedneday night, which looked at 2017 accomplishments and plans for 2018.

Bob Zuckerman, SOVCA Executive Director, noted that all the downtown retail stores reported that they had an excellent holiday season. Zuckerman also shared that seven new businesses had opened in South Orange in 2017, and of these -- Sadies, The Local Yarn Store, and Mod Studio -- all had local owners.

South Orange only has one rentable retail space available currently said Zuckerman, stating that a lease had just been signed with a new tenant, The Suite Spot, for the former Cryan's Pub space on 1st Street.

Zuckerman also highlighted new efforts planned for 2018 to work more closely with Seton Hall University, to encourage the university community to be more engaged in the Village, and for South Orange residents to become more involved in Seton Hall’s sports and other programs.

Matt Glass, SOVCA Chairman, conducted a panel discussion with four owners about doing business in the Village, discussing the issues they have encountered in opening their businesses.
