SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Barbara Van Doren has been a fixture in South Orange. For 96 years, her whole life, she has lived in this town. She was even the first in her family to be born in a hospital. Now, she's embarking on a new adventure: a move to Virginia
“This woman is amazing,” said Village President Sheena Collum. She stopped by to say her goodbyes to Van Doren yesterday and bring her flowers. “She is very well-loved by the community, especially residents of Glenside Road,” said Collum. Van Doren and her late husband Lawrence bought the home in 1953 and she has lived there since.
Collum even presented her with a proclamation marking the occasion and naming her a lifelong Villager, wherever life takes her:
