MAPLEWOOD AND SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - There is a lot going on in the two towns this Memorial Day weekend, as well as some closures on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.

SATURDAY, MAY 26

The Maplewood Community Pool opens at noon for the 2018 season. (The South Orange Community Pool is opening June 2, details here.)

Downtown After Sundown presents "Jazz on Sloan" with the Peter Lin Quintet performing under the gazebo on Sloan Street from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

SUNDAY, MAY 27

Downtown After Sundown presents "Jazz on Sloan" with the Charlie Apicella Sunday Jazz Trio performing under the gazebo on Sloan Street from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

MONDAY, MAY 28 - MEMORIAL DAY 

The Maplewood Memorial Day Parade assembles at the Columbia High School Student Parking Lot (West Parker Avenue) at 8:30 a.m. with a 9 a.m. kick-off. Parade route is West Parker Avenue to Maplewood Avenue to Baker Street to Valley Street to Town Hall. Memorial Day Ceremony on the steps of town hall immediately follows the parade.

The 20th Annual Memorial Day Rubber Duck Race takes place in Maplewood's Memorial Park immediately following the Maplewood Memorial Day parade, at around 11:30 a.m. Details here.

The annual South Orange Memorial Day Service will be held at 9 a.m., near Memorial Rock on the southwest end of the Duck Pond in Meadowland Park. All are invited.

 MEMORIAL DAY CLOSURES

  • South Orange Public Library and Maplewood Memorial Library are both closed.
  • Municipal offices in South Orange and Maplewood are closed.
  • No Jitney service in South Orange or Maplewood.
  • No Monday curbside recycling pick-up in Maplewood. Recycling pick-up will be on Tuesday, May 29. 
  • All South Orange Maplewood School District schools are closed.
