SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — The rain that was panicking seemingly every parent online magically stopped for the afternoon so that the Maplewood and South Orange Halloween festivities could go on as scheduled. The South Orange event was held inside the library due to the forecast, and the turnout was larger than anticipated. The floor was filled with characters of all descriptions: superheros made friends with villains, and fake news laughed alongside climate change.

Wanda the Witch was present for the festivities and together with Matt Glass, dressed as Ice Baby, led the crowd in different dances and games. The main event was the costume parade, which was judged by Village Trustees Steve Schnall, Summer Jones, and Bob Zuckerman, along with South Orange Village Center Association executive director Julie Doran, and Natalie Farrell, the main sponsor of the event. The other two sponsors were Sparkhouse Toys and SOVCA.

Over in Maplewood Village, overcast skies kept no one home. The streets were teeming with sports teams and Malificent moms amassed. There were pint sized Potters, grown up babies, and enough minions to make a minyan. Even ABC News reporter Naveen Dhaliwal stopped by. Allison Ziefert Real Estate Group sponsored the costume judging zone, and Maplewood Country Club sponsored a photo zone; Glamurosa Designs decorated the zone Dia de los Muertos (day of the dead) style.

Other sidewalk sponsors included Cougar Soccer Club, The Law Offices of Rhonda J. Panken, Kat Alexander from Coldwell Banker, Photo Booth Studios, Achieve Foundation, Bass Family Chiropractic, Oh! Canary, DJ Mike Levitt, Maker+Muse, Galer Coaching, Matters Magazine, Victoria Carter Real Estate Group, and Glamurosa Designs!
