SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Those Seton Hall University alumni who had in-person graduation taken by the pandemic quarantine last spring should get a chance to walk in robes and tassels soon.
The Catholic university announced last week that 2020 graduates will get a commencement ceremony in several smaller events at the Prudential Center in Newark to accommodate social distancing. “Last year’s seniors will have the opportunity to graduate in person at three different ceremonies on April 30 at 6:30 p.m., May 1 at 10:30 a.m. and May 1 at 4:30 p.m.,” reported the student news outlet The Setonian.
The SHU website says, “Due to the easing of restrictions at indoor arenas in New Jersey, Class of 2020 commencement ceremonies will now take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, rather than at the South Orange campus.”
The ceremonies are, the website warns, “contingent upon continued governmental approval for such an event and health and safety considerations at the time” as “The University continues to monitor State of NJ guidelines.”
For the class of 2021 commencement, the Seton Hall website says the details “are being finalized. Students should check their email and the commencement website for upcoming communications regarding venue and dates.”
