MAPLEWOOD, NJ — In a special session of the South Orange Maplewood Board of Education on Monday, a replacement for resigned board member Javier Farfan will be appointed. 

The board will meet at its usual location, the District Meeting Room at 525 Academy Street, Maplewood, on Feb. 10. The meeting, open to the public as usual, will begin at 7 p.m. and will include two hearings of individuals and delegations, known commonly as Public Speaks.

Each candidate for the vacant board member position will be interviewed in open session with the same set of questions. The names of the applicants have not been made public at this time. When all candidates have been interviewed, the board will move to go into executive session to deliberate.

Once returned to public session, they will appoint the new board member, that person will take the oath of office, and will immediately join the meeting. A discussion of the 2020-2021 budget presentation will ensue.

The next regular session BOE meeting will be Monday, Feb. 24, in closed session at 6:30 and public session at 7:30.
