SOUTH ORANGE AND MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The South Orange Maplewood School District (SOMSD) emailed families on Friday, March 9, outlining the school calendar for the rest of the year now that schools have closed four days due to inclement weather, and five days at Maplewood Middle School, which was closed an additional day due to lack of power.
The school district email explained, "SOMSD set aside three days for emergency closings in 2017-2018. However, the District has already used four days as a result of inclement weather, and Maplewood Middle School used a fifth day today, due to lack of power."
The 2017-2018 calendar, which was approved by the Board of Education, stated that once the district used more than the three allotted emergency closing days, the first make-up day would be April 9, the first day of spring recess, working forward to April 13, the last day of spring recess.
The email shared the following schedule for spring recess:
- Monday, April 9, 2018 – All Schools Open
- Tuesday, April 10, 2018 – Maplewood Middle School Open, All Other Schools Closed
If the district is closed additional days, more make-up days will be added, according to the email from SOMSD.
If emergency closings occur after April 13, make-up days will be added to the end of the school year, the email stated.
