I enthusiastically endorse Sharon Tanenbaum Kraus for the South Orange Maplewood School Board.  Sharon and I became fast friends while our children were enrolled in the Nursery at OLS in South Orange back in 2014. Since then, my adoration for her has only grown, and that feeling has expanded to my entire family. Sharon is my go-to Friday morning walking buddy and my Friday night sounding board over a glass of wine. But she is also so much more than that.

When my husband and I were going through the evaluation process for both of our daughters’ IEP, Sharon was my advocate, my cheerleader, and source of incredible knowledge. She was all of these things even though her eldest had only just qualified for special education less than a year prior. I wasn’t surprised though— because she is a tireless learner and will not stop seeking information to ensure the well-being of her children and others. She made sure to fully understand the process, what worked, what didn’t, who to contact when necessary, and by what means. And she was selfless in her sharing this with me, whenever I asked. Her journalism skills and her unconditional friendship helped me in a time when I felt helpless and vulnerable.

I was driving in town with my daughters the other day, and my eldest (6, in first grade), cheered, “Yay! Vote for Sharon!” I peered in my rearview mirror and asked if she had seen on of her lawn signs. She quickly replied, “Nope, but I just love Sharon and want her to win!” I couldn’t help but smile. I do too.
