Our school board faces its most critical decision in decades — the integration of our schools and the end of discriminatory practices in course enrollments. I shudder to think of this work being taken on without the presence of Johanna Wright on the Board of Education.
Mrs. Wright has been a champion for diversity throughout her teaching career in the district and her two terms on the Board of Education. She has been outspoken in calling to task the school district’s failures to address equity and has withstood countless attacks on her character. Through it all she has operated with dignity and class, and remains focused on what matters most — our children.
We need strong and independent voices on the Board of Education, beholden only to the truth and our children. Mrs. Wright has proven herself as the moral voice of the board by taking on issues such as the Common Core curriculum, standardized testing, bullying, discriminatory practices, and the safety and security of our children. The school district has been well served by her tenure on the Board, and we need her leadership as we work to make our commitment to students real.
Mrs. Wright has my full support for a third term on the Board of Education.
