EAST ORANGE/ORANGE, NJ — The Community Food Bank of New Jersey, in partnership with the Interfaith Pantry of the Oranges, will deliver over a ton of nonperishable provisions — up to 14 days worth of food — to provide emergency food relief for East Orange residents.

The emergency food shipment on Friday, April 17, 2020 at the East Orange Senior Center, 90 Halsted Street, East Orange, provided packages will contain such items as pasta, rice, canned meats and vegetables.

“The extent and impact of this crisis has made food insecurity an issue for many of our residents, some for the very first time in their lives,” said Mayor Ted R. Green. “On behalf of the entire East Orange community, I want to express a heartfelt thanks to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey and the Interfaith Pantry of the Oranges for this generous donation that will help put food on the table for so many of our families in need.”

To maintain current social distancing practices, the city created a systematic process by which residents have the option of either walking up or driving through. Residents that choose to pick up their boxes by drive-through will be directed to an access point at which time their box will be placed in the trunk of their car while they remain inside the car.

The Department of Health and Human Services’ Division of Senior Services will lead the food distribution effort with support from the Department of Public Works, the Department of Public Safety and the Mayor’s Office.

Distribution is set to begin at this week.
