MILLBURN, NJ - The Millburn Farmer's Market is open for the season in the parking lot at the corner of Main and Essex Streets, carrying on a tradition 25 years in the making. From 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesdays through October 31, farmers are bringing locally grown freshness direct to the community.
Alstede Farm, Ort Farm, and Great Road Organic Farm (formerly Harvest Moon) all will have seasonal fruits and vegetables weekly. South Town Farm is a newcomer to the Millburn Farmers Market and joins the market via Homegrown By Heroes (HBH). “The HBH label empowers farmer veterans by giving them a tool to highlight their agricultural efforts.”
Matt Soldano from Ramsey is the owner of South Town Farm. He served in the Marines from 2002 to 2006 and was deployed to Iraq from 2004 to 2005. He started South Town Farms LLC in 2010 with the help of a grant from the Farmer Veteran Coalition. Soldano raises 800 laying hens, 4,000 broilers, 200 turkeys and 150 hogs. His product line includes three varieties of bacon, ten varieties of sausage, hot dogs, jerkies, poultry cuts, turkey parts and whole turkeys.
Beyond produce, the Millburn Farmer's Market also has an impressive vendor list. Doc Pickle, Gina’s Bakery, Gourmet Fruits and Nuts, Hoboken Farms, Hummus Boss, Paolos Kitchen and Nature Has Flavor are all bringing their unique flavors and treats to Millburn.
Visitors can even have their cooking utensils brought to top notch performance before cutting into the ripe produce. Neil’s Knife Sharpening will sharpen customer's knives while they wait.
