NEWARK, NJ — A woman in Newark was injured on Friday after leaping from her roof as her home was caught ablaze. 

At approximately 9:18 a.m., firefighters responded to a call for fire at a two-story home at 384 South 19th St., Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said.

As firefighters observed flames and smoke coming from a top-floor window, they reported that a female inside the residence jumped from the building’s roof to safety. She was transported to University Hospital for treatment.

No other injuries have been reported, Ambrose said. 

The fire was considered under control at 9:44 a.m. with two families, comprised of four adults and two children, displaced.

The cause and origin of this fire are under investigation by the Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit.
