Stop and Shop is one of several grocery store chains across the county that have set aside shopping hours for seniors. The local South Orange Stop and Shop has taken that safety convenience a step further. The store and its managers were gracious enough to allow JESPY clients to shop for groceries on Thursday, March 26, 2020, during the early morning hour of 7:30am-8:30am.
The early time frame was an optimal shopping time for JESPY clients who have Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities. They were able to easily maneuver the aisles to make product choices and avoid extremely long lines and crowds.
“I like shopping here,” said longtime JESPY client Andrea W. “I can usually always find what I need and the staff is nice.” Clients can continue to shop on Thursdays during that hour until Coronavirus restrictions are lifted.
JESPY House serves clients in the areas of recreation, employment, athletics, Community-based supports, behavioral health, activities of daily living and most importantly, advancing independence. Clients range in age from 18-72. To learn more or to make a donation, visit jespy.org.
