MAPLEWOOD, NJ - For the second year, the Springfield Avenue Public Art Initiative will hold a Craft Beer Tasting fundraising event to raise funds for murals on Springfield Avenue, with all proceeds from the event being used to bring more murals to Springfield Avenue in Maplewood (SAM).

“The funds raised from last year’s event have already allowed us to install two murals along Springfield Avenue, and we have a third mural being added this fall,” said Maplewood Mayor Victor DeLuca. With the addition of these three murals on the Avenue we are optimistic about how they will strengthen and enhance the identity of the business district.”

At the tasting, the location for the third mural will be revealed, stated a press release about the event.

“We are grateful to Springfield Avenue-favorite Wine Barrel for hosting this event and to co-presenting sponsor CKO Maplewood,” said Julie Doran, District Manager for the Springfield Avenue Partnership. “The Partnership’s purpose is to support the SAM business community. This event allows us to showcase several Springfield Avenue businesses while raising funds for our exciting new arts program on the Avenue.”

The two murals which were installed using funds from last year's fundraising event are "I am Maplewood," located at the intersection of Springfield Avenue and Prospect Street in Maplewood, which was created by artists Michael David Adams and Viktorija Bowers Adams, and "Many Hands Make Light Work," by artist Elijah Minton, at the 1978 Arts Center.

A third mural is in progress, and the SAM partnership hopes to install the fourth mural by spring 2019, according to the press release.

The Craft Beer Tasting will take place at Wine Barrel, (1886 Springfield Ave.) on Thursday, October 4, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m, Tickets may be purchased in advance for $25 online and for $30 at the door.
