MAPLEWOOD, NJ - Oyster Fest is back.
The 5th annual Robert J. Miller Oyster Fest is coming to Maplewood on Sept. 14, but festivities leading up to the event have already started.
St. James's Gate Publick House hosted a kickoff party yesterday for the event, which raises money for melanoma awareness and research. The oyster fest is dedicated to Robert Miller, a Maplewood resident who died of melanoma.
The kickoff party had raffle drawings to raise money for the cause. A raffle drawing was held for two tickets to the Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival, which will be held from Sept. 27 to 30, at the Galway City Centre in Galway, Ireland. Raffle tickets for the Galway Oyster Festival trip cost $100 each.
Other raffle prizes included tickets to a Yankees game and golf outings and a 55" Sharp Roku TV. Anne Servitto of South Orange won the TV.
The Robert J. Miller Oyster Fest is scheduled for Sept. 14, from 1 to 9 p.m., in Maplewood Village.
