SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — The parking meters in South Orange have been wrapped for the holiday season, and you get the gift: free parking for the meter's time.

The parking may be free, but the time allotted to park at each meter or in each lot remains. One is only allowed to park as long as the time posted. For example, in the Sloan Street lot parking is allowed for three hours, not all day.

The South Orange Parking Authority said that police will be monitoring the parking with timing surveys and chalking tires as well.

The free parking began Dec. 2 and runs through the end of December. Bring your quarters again on Jan. 1.
