MAPLEWOOD/SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Currently, there will be four seats open in the November election for South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education. Three seats will be for a full three-year term, and one seat will be for a one-year term.
Candidate nominating petitions must be filed before 4 p.m. on Monday, July 27 at the County Clerk's office at 495 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Room 246 in Newark. The County Clerk’s office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Among other qualifications, a candidate must be at least 18 years old, must have lived in Maplewood or South Orange for at least one year prior to the election, be a registered voter, and be able to read and write. Candidates will be subject to a background check.
A candidate can file to run as an individual or jointly with other candidate(s). The completed petition must be notarized before it can be filed. Board of Education elections will take place on November 3.
