SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Phase 2 of the Academy Street Road Improvements project, from Massel Terrace to the Maplewood border, is scheduled to begin the wek of August 14, according to an update from the South Orange Engineering Department (SOED) on the South Orange Village website.
Curb, sidewalk and drainage work is planned, with work taking place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The project is expected to take 3 months, weather permitting, according to the update from the SOED.
After this part of the project is completed, the milling and paving of the roadway will be scheduled.
The SOED update stated that residents "may notice yellow, blue, green and/ or red spray paint markings in the road and sidewalk area. They are to help locate the respective underground utilities in the area."
Also, during this time, driveway access will be limited in the work area, according to the SOED.
"Although this can be an inconvenience, we will try to minimize this disruption. During this construction period, cars will not be allowed to be parked on the road. You may park in your driveway overnight, but we recommend you relocate them to a side street prior to the start of work if you plan on driving that day," stated the SOED.
Residents who need to park overnight on the roadway should contact the South Orange Police Department at 973-763-3000 or the Parking Authority at 973-378-7715 x 2037 and inform them that there is roadwork on their street.
Residents who have a sprinkler system near the curb and sidewalk area should locate them for the contractor. The Village and contractor will not be responsible for damages, stated the SOED update. If damages do occur, please notify Ed Gulyas, South Orange Village Deputy Department Head of Engineering, at 973-378-7715 x 2266.
The SOED updated asked residents not to "approach or attempt to discuss the project with individual workers as they do not have the authority to make changes to the project scope or perform additional work."
Any disturbed areas as a result of the work being performed will be top soiled and seeded.
If you have questions regarding road closures or specific construction issues, please contact Ed Gulyas, South Orange Village Deputy Department Head of Engineering, at 973-378-7715 x 2266.
