WATCHUNG, NJ — Plans for a theater and two of the stores in the new shopping center that will replace Sears and Sears Auto Center on Route 22 and Terrill Road received approvals at Tuesday night's Watchung Planning Board Meeting. The next meeting, where final approval on the cinema is expected, is scheduled for Sept.19.
HomeSense and Sierra Trading Post are the two stores identified who will occupy a two-tenant building on the Sears retail site and a 10-screen Cinemark Theater will occupy the Sears automotive site.
Representatives from Seritage Growth Properties, the owner of both sites, said that they are still seeking tenants for the four pad sites and the three tenant retail building planned for the Sears retail site. Lighting, security, building finishes and traffic were also discussed.
According to their website, TJX Companies operates T.J. Maxx and Marshalls (combined, Marmaxx), HomeGoods and Sierra Trading Post, as well as tjmaxx.com and sierratradingpost.com, are operated in the United States.
The website says that HomeSense, as well as Winners and Marshalls (combined, TJX Canada) are operated in Canada; and T.K. Maxx in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Poland, Austria, the Netherlands, and Australia, as well as HomeSense and tkmaxx.com in the U.K. (combined, TJX International), so the Watchung HomeSense, if it continues to be operated under that trade name, may be one of the first in the United States.
The Sears store is set to close on Sept.17 and a fundraising site has been launched to save the "Legend of Watchung" Mural.
