Arrest in Stolen Auto case: On February 28 at approximately 5 p.m. a Longview Road resident reported their Land Rover stolen from their driveway. The vehicle was recovered several hours later in Newark. Detective Bureau investigated and charged Christopher Leake, a 19-year-old Newark resident, with the theft of the Land Rover. Leake was arrested on Friday, July 10 then transported to the Essex County Jail.
Stolen Autos: On July 7 and July 8, during the overnight hours, residents from Speir Drive and Glenview Road reported their vehicles stolen from their driveways. One of the vehicles was recovered the next morning in Orange and the second vehicle has not been located. In both incidents the keys were left inside the vehicles. PLEASE REMEMBER NOT TO LEAVE YOUR KEY FOBS INSIDE YOUR VEHICLES AND ALWAYS LOCK THE DOORS.
Auto Theft Arrest: On July 4 at approximately 8 p.m. Marc Alverson, a 31-year-old Verona resident, and Silvija Morrison, a 38-year-old South River resident, were arrested for stealing a 2010 blue Mazda 3 while it was parked and running in front of 6 West South Orange Avenue. A witness notified the South Orange Police and was able to follow the stolen Mazda as it traveled south on Valley Street. The vehicle pulled into the Columbia High School parking lot on Valley Street and officers were able to apprehend both individuals. Alverson was charged with Theft of Auto, Resisting Arrest and Possession of Hypodermic Syringe for Use of CDS; Morrison was charged with Receiving Stolen Property and Obstructing.
