LIVINGSTON, NJ — The 51-year-old man who was struck and killed on South Orange Avenue on Friday evening has been identified as John Peebles of Newark, according to Livingston Police Chief Gary Marshuetz and Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II.

At approximately 11:16 p.m., Peebles was walking eastbound on South Orange Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at approximately 11:44 p.m., according to the prosecutor’s office.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. Livingston Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating, and no charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
