MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The Maplewood Fire Department provided an All Hands response to reports of a smoke condition coming out of Maplewood Deli and Subs, located at 1628 Springfield Avenue shortly before 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 10. Upon arrival, it was discovered the business was closed and no one was in attendance.
To enable the firefighters to gain entry and attend to the source of the smoke, they had to break through the glass in the front door. The firefighters quickly located a pot that had been left on the stove as the source, with a small fire as the source of the smoke. This was rather quickly extinguished, minimizing damage to the premises. After the fire was knocked down, a thorough search was conducted and the scene was declared safe; the fire fighterers then met with the business owner.
The Maplewood Police Department provided safety for the scene by closing Springfield Avenue between Vermont and Burnett Streets.
