February 2, 2020 Theft from Vehicle: At approximately 12:40 p.m., an unsecured vehicle on Essex Ave. was entered and a Mac Pro tablet was removed. The suspect was last seen running towards Irvington Ave. with the tablet.
February 4, 2020 Package Theft: Between the hours of 12 and 3 p.m., a package was stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Garfield Pl.
February 5, 2020 Trespassing: On this date, a resident on Park Ave. reported that his vehicle was entered sometime during the overnight hours. The vehicle was unsecured and no items were reported missing.
February 6, 2020 Shoplifting: At approximately 4:20 p.m., Walgreens employees reported observing a male subject place several deodorants in his jacket and leave the store without paying. The male was unable to be located.
February 10, 2020 Theft from Vehicle: Resident from the 200 block of Parker Ave. reported his vehicle was broken into during the overnight hours and various items were missing. The vehicle was believed to be left unsecured as there were no signs of forced entry.
February 10, 2020 Shoplifting: At approximately 7:33 p.m., Officers responded to Kaspers Liquors on the report of a male subject shoplifting a bottle of Hennessy. Officers located the male with the proceeds in the area of the store. He was identified as Terrell White, 45, of Newark. He was taken into custody and later transported to the Essex County Jail on outstanding warrants.
February 11, 2020 Theft from Vehicle: At approximately 9:44 p.m., a vehicle on Maplewood Ave. was placed on cinder blocks and all four of the rims/tires were removed from the vehicle. No suspects at this time.
February 13, 2020 Package Theft: At approximately 11:17 a.m., a package was stolen from a residence on the 100 block of Rutgers St.
February 15, 2020 Shoplifting: At approximately 11:28 a.m., Walgreens reported a male shoplifted two Febreze air sprays. Officers responded and located the individual. Walgreens employees did not press charges and all items were returned.
February 15, 2020 Shoplifting: At approximately 4:20 p.m., employees of the Extra Supermarket reported they had a male detained for shoplifting. Michael January, 45, of Newark was taken into custody.
The Maplewood Police Department works hard to protect the residents and their property. We are asking that you assist us in this effort by making sure all vehicles and homes are properly secured at all times. All charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
