Maplewood Township Committee Appoints New Chief of Police

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The Maplewood Township Committee voted 4 to 1 to appoint Acting Chief of Police Jimmy DeVaul to the position of Chief of Police, effective Wednesday morning, April 4, when he will officially be sworn into office.

DeVaul, who is a lifelong resident of Maplewood and a graduate of Columbia High School, was accompanied at the meeting by his wife, Krista, as well as by several Maplewood police officers.

Maplewood Mayor Victor DeLuca, Deputy Mayor Frank McGehee, and Township Committee members Dean Dafis and Nancy Adams all spoke about the two candidates for the police chief position, and their expectations for the future of the police department.

Committeeman Greg Lembrich was in favor of appointing Kevin Kisch, the other candidate for the police chief position, and was the only committee member who did not vote yes to DeVaul's appointment.
