MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A resolution was passed at the March 3 Township Council meeting naming the following religious leaders Police Chaplains within the Maplewood Police Department:

Rev. Dr. Rick Boyer of Prospect Presbyterian Church, Maplewood

Rabbi Daniel Cohen of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel, South Orange

Rev. Valencia Norman of First Presbyterian and Trinity Church, South Orange

Rabbi Jesse Olitzky, Congregation Beth El, South Orange

Rev. Terry Richardson of First Baptist Church of South Orange

Rev. Harry Tysen, Maplewood resident and retired Chaplain

Rev. James Worth of St. Joseph’s Church, Maplewood

Ashraf Latif of Nia Masjid and Community Center, Newark

Rabbi David Vaisberg of Temple B’nai Abraham, Livingston

The position of Police Chaplain was created by the Township in 2018. As stated in Resolution No. 50-20, “Police Chaplains will serve an invaluable service to the Maplewood Police Department and the Maplewood Community by helping the Maplewood Police in discharging their duties, including but not limited to, death notifications, station house adjustments and other duties.”
